In this era of mass incarceration Coach Smedley has both personal and professional expertise. Her father entered prison when she was 10-years-old and walked out when she was 25. Six of her 7 uncles were incarcerated in jails and prisons in Ohio. Coach Smedley’s family has served a combined 75 years behind bars. Despite such negative circumstances Coach Smedley managed to grow up and thrive. In her book “Embracing Your Story: How to Build a Great Life Out of Hardship” she shares her uplifting story. She has worked in the field reentry for the past 20 years in multiple settings including community and facility-based programs. Her unique perspective allows her to provide practical training for practitioners engaged in the challenging work of reentry. She is a returning Workforce180 instructor!
